Meet Your Acting District AttorneyDavid J. Studdard is the Acting District Attorney for the Griffin Judicial Circuit, comprised of Fayette, Spalding, Pike and Upson Counties. David was born in Rome, Ga. and his family moved to Fayette County in 1974. After high school, David enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Saipan from 1984 until 1988. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, David Joined the Atlanta Police Department where he served for nearly 17 years. While with the Atlanta Police Department, David spent most of his law enforcement career assigned to Special Operations, including the Red Dog Drug Task Force and the APD SWAT Team. David finished his career with APD as a Homicide Detective.
While with the police department, David worked his way through college, attending Mercer University. After Graduating from Mercer, David entered John Marshall Law School in Atlanta while still working as a Detective. David graduated from John Marshall in the fall of 2003 and passed the Georgia Bar exam in the spring of 2004. David retired from the Atlanta Police Department and began practicing law with his father, in Jonesboro Ga. After gaining experience in both civil and criminal law, David went to work for the Griffin Judicial Circuit, District Attorney’s office where he worked as an Assistant District Attorney, prosecuting drug crimes. David left the District Attorney’s office in 2007 and started a private practice. After several years in private practice handling both civil and criminal matters, David went to work for the Fulton County District Attorney’s office where he prosecuted major felony cases. In 2015 David Joined Public Defenders office in Fayette County where he handled and tried a variety of criminal felony cases. In 2016 he was promoted and became the Attorney/Office manager for the Public Defender’s office in Spalding County. David was offered an opportunity to rejoin the District Attorney’s office for the Griffin Judicial Circuit in 2018 and went to work in the Fayette office. David was promoted to Chief Assistant District Attorney in 2020 by newly appointed District Attorney, Marie Broder. David helped guide the District Attorney's office through the Covid 19 pandemic and assisted in crafting policies and procedures for the office. As the Chief Assistant, David primarily tried major cases to include murders, child molestation, sexual assault cases and gang prosecutions. . |
