The Fayette County District Attorney’s Office completed trial calendars in front of The Honorable W. Fletcher Sams and The Honorable “Mack” Crawford. Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Warren Sellers and Assistant District Attorney Christy Jindra handled the calendars.
The following were notable pleas in front of Judge Sams: State v. Jaivon Gabriel Bowe - Case No. 2017R-0478A Bowe, an 18 year old man from Jonesboro, GA, entered guilty pleas on three cases. He pled guilty to case number 2017R-0478 with the counts of Home Invasion, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary and False Imprisonment. He was sentenced to 20 years with the first 15 years to be served in prison. Bowe pled guilty to entering a home in Fayetteville, GA on 7/14/2017. The defendant entered the bedroom of the victim, held the victim at gunpoint and restrained him with duct tape. The victim was punched, shoved, and choked. While the victim was restrained, the defendant took a television, pellet rifle, an Xbox, and United States Currency. Bowe also pled guilty to Case Number 2018R-0107 to Attempted Murder of a Witness in a Proceeding and was sentenced to 10 years to serve in prison. On January 29, 2018, Bowe offered to pay an inmate at the Fayette County Jail $20,000 to kill the victim in the Home Invasion. Bowe also included a detailed drawing of the victim’s home. Bowe also entered a guilty plea to Theft by Taking in Case Number 2017R-0285B. He was sentenced to 5 years to be served in prison. On 12/22/2016, Bowe took a motor vehicle in Peachtree City. State v. David Coney – Case No. 2017R-0551A Coney, a 47 year old man from Savannah, entered a plea to one count of shoplifting. He was sentenced to 10 years, serve 6 years in prison followed by 4 years probation. He was caught shoplifting at Target in Peachtree City, GA. State v. Nicole Berry – Case No. 2018R-0008 Berry, a 47 year old woman from Decatur, entered a plea to one count of shoplifting and was sentenced to 10 years, serve 5 years in prison followed by 5 years probation.She was caught shoplifting at the Home Depot in Peachtree City. State v. Jarvis Chism – Case No. 2017R-0548 Chism, a 23 year old man from Powder Springs, Georgia entered a guilty plea to Aggravated Assault on Peace Officer and Fleeing and Attempting to Elude a police officer. He was sentenced to 10 years, serve 1 year in prison followed by 9 years probation consecutive to sentence in count 3. He damaged a patrol vehicle by striking it during a high speed chase in Fayette County. The following were notable pleas in front of Judge Crawford: State v. Charles Heard – Case No. 2017R-0560 Heard, a 56 year old man from Peachtree City, pled guilty to Criminal Attempt to Commit a Robbery and Exploitation/Intimidation of an Elderly Person. He received 20 years with the first 7 years to be spent in prison. He is also banished from Fayette and Coweta Counties. Heard pled to attempting to forcibly remove the victim, an elderly lady, from her car at the Walgreens in Peachtree City. The victim refused to get out of the car, and the defendant fled the scene on foot. State v. John Dockery – Case No. 2017R -0407Dockery, a 36 year old man from Fayetteville, pled guilty to Arson in the First Degree and was sentenced to 15 years with the first 7 to be served in prison. Dockery burned down his house after his wife filed a divorce action. Bryan Leyva-Gonzalez – Case No. 2017R-0469 21 year old Leyva-Gonzalez entered a plea to Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude for an incident that occurred on 09/10/2017. On that date, he led police on a high speed chase from Fayette to Coweta Counties. He was sentenced to 7 years with the first 3 to be served in prison. District Attorney Coker said of the pleas, “the Fayette County DA’s Office worked hard to bring about resolutions to these cases and more over the last week. Thanks to their hard work, along with the efforts of law enforcement, court staff, witnesses and victims, these criminals are off of the streets of Fayette County.”
